EZ-catalog start up failure and unaible to re-install

Question

EZ-Catalog application suddenly fails to start. Re-installing of the application does not work.

Features

With the start of the application a pop up appears with the following text: “Cannot run the application. Contact the supplier of the application.”

When you click Details… a file is opened in the notepad with the text: “The part to which is referred is not installed on this system.”

Probable cause

Presumably the application has been corrupted. This is a Windows issue which can occur with "click-once applications".

Solution

A new installation of EZ-catalog has to be executed, but first the old installation has to be removed manually. To be able to do this you have to have sufficient (administrator) rights on the system.

Procedure

Tip: in the following procedure you're asked to delete a folder with application data. If you are uncomfortable about this you can choose to not delete the folder, but simply alter the name to another name. The application will not be able to find the folder anymore and will consider it "deleted", and you can still reverse the process.

Step 1
Within the file explorer go to the following location: (this is a hidden folder, so just paste the address in the address beam of your file explorer)

C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Apps\2.0

In this folder is one file folder named Data and one or several folders with seamingly random names.

If there is only one folder with a random name, you have to delete this folder (NOT the data folder!!) and you don't have to proceed to step 2.

Step 2
If there are multipe folders with random names, it means that there are multipe click-once applications on your PC and you have to find out which folder belongs to EZ-catalog. You do this by opening them one by one. if you open such a folder there might be another folder within th folder with a random name. In the next folder are several folders with long random names, only now all folder names start with the first 4 characters of the application they belong to. In case of EZ-catalog that would be ezca... and the folder looks a bit like this:

When you have determined that this folder belongs to EZ-catalog, you go back to C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Apps\2.0 and you delete the concering folder (in the screen shot above that is the folder named 70JX7M2M.LPN)

Step 3
Start EZ-Catalog as you do normally. The application will now conclude that it has to be installed again and the normal installation process will be run.

Aferwards the program should be able to be used again normally.
